A few years ago, Bascombe International was appointed by a lady in her 30s with a family-related tracing request.
At the age of just 6, the lady’s mother had abandoned her when she left the house to supposedly buy a loaf of bread from the shop. She never came back. Nearly 30 years on, the daughter wanted answers.
Bascombe International carried out a host of enquiries to try and trace the mother, which turned out to be an extremely lengthy process. Nevertheless, as persistent as ever, they managed to track down an address for the client’s mother.
Pete Bascombe, who led the enquiry, gave the address to the client, who went and confronted her mother at her front door. Completely overawed, the mother was speechless.
Following an emotional reunion and with 30 years of catching up to do, Pete received a call from the client in floods of tears, with her mother, absolutely delighted with the result.
But they say nothing lasts forever, and sadly this was the case for this particular client. Bascombe International later found out that just a week later, the mother kicked her daughter out of the house and told her never to return. She had a new life now and didn’t see her daughter as part of it.
This was an incredibly bitter-sweet enquiry for Bascombe International. But the client was extremely grateful for the team’s efforts in reuniting her with her mother – even if it didn’t end as she would have hoped.
